We Have The Terminator….Well, Sort Of….

With the recent revealing of the line-up in Mortal Kombat 11’s “Kombat Pack”, one can only imagine the cheers (and yes, some jeers) over the whole thing. I mean, we have Shang Tsung, Sindel, Nightwolf, Spawn, Joker, and ‘Mr. T-800’ himself, The Terminator.

Given the awesome work that the MK folks did with Shang Tsung and all — having the likeness and voice-over talent of Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa from 1995’s “Mortal Kombat” flick — I immediately started imagining what Terminator was going to be like, and what Arnold Schwarzenegger would be saying…..

…until I found out there won’t be any Arnold quips or his classic one-liners.

I understand that this IS Hollywood that we’re dealing with here, but I’m having lots of trouble with trying to make sense of how his likeness could be so excellently captured, but no lending of his voice; like, at all.  I could see it if there had been another actor that played as him in the series, and they maybe would use his voice instead, but no. Nobody else can be Terminator better than Arnold.

Sure there’s going to be plenty of people out there who won’t care who does the voicing for Terminator, or even care for the character in general at all. Then you have die-hard purists like myself who are very particular about this kind of stuff.

In my opinion, Arnold literally MADE The Terminator, so having someone else provide the voices for his own character just seems wrong to me.  I’d rather there not be any spoken dialogue at all, honestly. In the first movie, he didn’t say much, so that would work out great I think.

I guess my whole point is, when including a high profile character in a high profile game, it’s a safe bet that there’ll be some expectations.  For example, how would you feel if, say, Samuel L. Jackson, Vin Diesel, or Dwayne Johnson had been added instead, and someone else provided the voices?

Exactly….
