Sword of the Stars: The Pit – Mind Games (Review) PC
Review Score:

Sword of the Stars: The Pit – Mind Games is DLC (Downloadable Content) that adds new content to an already robust game. The content update adds ten new levels, two additional classes, psionic power and a plethora of weapons.

Additionally, the DLC introduces two new gaming modes – Infinite Mode and Serious Mode. Serious Mode is actually more difficult than Insane Mode. Mind Games also allows the player to store items from their inventory and bank experience points to be later used on additional characters.

The reason Mind Games is a continuation of Sword of the Stars is that it requires you  to play through the core base of the game to reach the new DLC. This is not uncommon for some games, but others allow you to begin the game from a new location (this also includes starting the game with any new characters that may be available).

There is an upside: if you happen to have a previously saved game with a character that is located on a higher floor, you can continue with a new character while remaining on that level. But keep in mind that your new character will only be level one, so starting out on a higher floor might not be a good idea.

The Psionic class introduces psionic powers to Sword of the Stars. This adds a new element to the game as you can now use powers that are similar to magic. You can use your mind to attack creatures, open doors and even repair machinery from a distance. The second class is Tarka Ranger; it’s very efficient at lock picking, assault weapons, rifles and others skills such as foraging.

The Mind Games DLC helps to expand the in-game arsenal, while including more content for the player to experience. Plus, the combat system that gamers are familiar with hasn’t really changed. Sword of the Stars: The Pit is one of the best rogue-like dungeon crawlers available on PC today. And thanks to the Mind Games expansion, we are given additional content to extend the replay value of an already robust game.
