Konami has just released some information on character advancement and skills for the upcoming game, Vandal Hearts: Flames of Judgment for the Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles (through their respective online networks). VH is the latest game in the strategic RPG series that started on the PSOne back in the mid 1990’s. In the original title, advancing your character was simple, fight, and level up every 10 levels, this was a simple yet versatile method and kept the game moving at a fairly fast clip. The new title will retain a similar style of advancement though the game will be tracking many stats behind the scenes (don’t worry, if you want a more active role in how your character progresses, you can jump in with more control).
Here are the skills and a basic explanation of each:
Core Skills: These are the 7 most common stats available to the player that are affected by battle (how you fight and defend yourself) and even how you finish your opponent has an effect on your character’s core skills.
Magic Skills: Every spell available to the player has it’s own skill level which works with the character’s Magic Core Skill to determine how good the character is with that spell. There are over 24 spells that can be unlocked so there will be a lot of customization available for gamers that prefer magic users.
Combat Skills: To become a skilled warrior you will have to make use of terrain, allies and even draw first blood to improve this skill.
Weapons Skill: Each character has the ability to cary up to two weapons at once. This brings a bit of customization and differences in utilization of the various weapons. Characters can master one weapon or just become proficient with many weapons.
Special Skills: One unique ability is available to each character to help set them apart from the other characters. Connar Ganson has a “Frenzy” skill which gives him an extra free move when he finishes off an opponent in battle.
Journal: This is a record keeping option for gamers to keep tabs on the various characters and events that are going on in the game.
