Ever wish you could be a train conductor? Choo Choo Steam Trains by Chillingo (Iphone $0.99) grants your wish. You start off with 3 options: Play, Build, Watch.
You can also click on a crystal and validate your e-mail address to get into Crystal where you can view your achievements, find friends, look at recommended games, my games, account settings, and switch users.
When you click play, you will be shown five islands, of which three are unlocked. On each island you will see multiple towns. The first town you start off in, will be the most simple. You take your train and pick up passengers at train stations. As you go to more towns, the tracks and challenges will get more complex. You need to pick up the passengers and boxes at each station, before you have five passengers or boxes waiting.
You also need to manage track switches, bridges, railroad crossings, and fuel. As you pick up passengers you will get money and unlock pieces of track and scenery so you can build your own railroad. Once a level is completed, you will see how much money you earned and how long it took, as well as a star rating. It will also show what track pieces you have unlocked.
It can get complicated when more trains have been added and you must manage up to 4 trains without having them collide with something and picking up the passengers/boxes at the same time.
When you click on build, you get a simple round track that you can modify by adding the pieces that you have unlocked. As you complete challenges from the Play mode, you can also unlock buildings and landscaping features.
The more pieces you use from the ones available, you will earn achievements for using them. Once your railroad is completed, you can view the train go around your track.
In the watch mode, you can watch 3 unlocked tracks. This is an relaxing feature that allows you to see the trains running through towns and even includes a winter scene with a snowman.
This is a fun game that will set you on the right track for fun, whether you are or aren’t a train enthusiast.
