DotEmu, developer and publisher specializing in modern releases of beloved retro games, and developer Lizardcube, are thrilled to announce a series of Dev Diaries of Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap.
Wonder Boy is the beloved 80s and 90s Japanese series that follows a curious young boy embarking on strange and delightful adventures. En route to BitSummit 4th in Kyoto, Japan to debut this brand-new version of the popular game, Omar Cornut, development lead, and Ben Fiquet, art director, had the opportunity to meet Ryuichi Nishizawa, creator of the Wonder Boy series.
In the upcoming and beautifully handcrafted remake of Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap, Wonder Boy has been turned into a half-human, half-lizard monstrosity by the Meka-Dragon and the lonesome adventurer is facing the challenge of a lifetime. In search for a cure, our mutated anti-hero explores the many traps of Monster Land, a vast, interconnected world, and is tasked with defeating many stuff-throwing, curse-wielding dragons. It’s there that he undergoes several more transformations, including a Lizard, Hawk, Lion and more and it’s up to you to help Wonder Boy through each shifting shape in this non-stop action platformer.
The first Dev Diary episode, now available on YouTube, includes insights into the project’s origins, exclusive game images, and some anecdotes from Nishizawa-san concerning the original version. Nishizawa-san was responsible for almost every aspect of most the cherished Wonder Boy and Monster Boy games as a founder of longtime revered studio, Westone Bit Entertainment.
