Following successful Kickstarter campaigns last year for Moon Hunters and Black The Fall, the first project to be supported by Square Enix Collective in 2015 is Goetia – a point-and-click adventure set in a haunted English mansion in the middle of World War II.
You take control of Abigail Blackwood, a girl who died some 50 years previously, as you explore your surroundings and answer some key questions: Where is everybody? Why have you returned? And what has your family gotten mixed up with since your death…?
The team behind the game is France-based Sushee, which first submitted the project to the Collective feedback platform last year and achieved a 90% yes-vote. With strong design from French artist Moeity, and some nice twists on the classic adventure game style, the team is seeking $30,000 to complete the game (which is already partway through development).
Benjamin Anseaume, Goetia lead designer and project director: “We’re really excited to see what people think of Goetia, as we start our Kickstarter today. It’s a great way for us to get feedback from gamers to help us make the game as good as possible, plus we get to retain creative control and full independence. Thanks for all your support!”
Phil Elliott, Collective project lead: “As soon as we saw Goetia submitted to Collective, we wanted to play the game. It’s a great blend of mystery and exploration, with a few nice twists – and we believe the team at Sushee can create a really nice experience.”
