Lexis Numérique, one of Europe’s leading independent video game studios, announces the launch of a crowd funding campaign via KickStarter.com for its forthcoming game, Taxi Journey.
With the video game market going through a historic transition period, crowd funding for games is really taking off. Studios have used KickStarter.com to raise record budgets of $3.3m (Double Fine Adventure), $3.9m (Project Eternity) and even $4.2m (Torment: Tides of Numenera).
However, no French studio has yet gone down this road.
Lexis Numérique is the first French studio to launch a video game funding campaign on KickStarter.com. The 30-day campaign begins today and ends on July 27th, and aims to raise $230k (£150K or ?177K) to complete the funding requirements for Taxi Journey.
Taxi Journey is an original game, mixing adventure and puzzle gameplay in a universe that combines poetry, humor and mystery.
Gino, a big man of few words, has a taxi with a difference: he’s broke, so he gets on his bike and his customers hop on his back. After an encounter with a mysterious young girl called Zoe, he ends up journeying to strange faraway lands. Together they meet some engaging and amusing characters but also some more sinister types who will do everything in their power to stop them.
Fully pencil-drawn, Taxi Journey has a powerful and highly personal graphic universe which draws inspiration from a range of very attractive sources, including the films of Tim Burton and the Japanese filmmaker Miyazaki and the beautiful Limbo.
According to Djamil Kemal, Marketing & Business Development Director, “this funding campaign is consistent with the desire of Lexis Numérique to retain its independence and bring gamers innovative games. We hope that gamers will join us in this adventure”.
