24th September 2012: It’s been over 20 years since Carrier Command was spotted in HMV – but it will make a triumphant return on Friday 28th September 2012, at Gamerbase Trocadero, to celebrate the release of Bohemia Interactive’s bold re-imagining ‘Carrier Command: Gaea Mission’.
Running on the second day of London Games Festival, between 10:00am and 6:00pm, players will have the opportunity to revisit the original Amiga classic, running on a trusty Commodore computer hooked up to a large LCD screen. Whilst the visuals have certainly dated, the sandbox-style gameplay remains as cutting-edge as ever.
To illustrate how faithful the updated Xbox 360 and PC release is to its 16-bit predecessor, players will also have the opportunity to jump into Bohemia’s modern interpretation – a stunning mix of futuristic warfare from arguably the genre’s masters, combined with classic game design principles which remain compulsive to this day.
If you can’t make it to London, Carrier Command: Gaea Mission will also be available to play for free for two weeks after release in the following HMV Gamerbase stores: HMV Manchester, 90 Market Street; HMV Edinburgh, 130 Princes Street, HMV Glasgow, 235 Buchanan Street.
Everyone who plays the game in-store on Friday 28th September will be entered into a draw to win a brand new Xbox 360. There’s one console up for grabs at each Gamerbase.
“What better way to illustrate the fact that the original gameplay remains so enticing than to put both old and new side by side,” says James Cato, Group Sales Director, Mastertronic. “Hosting this special celebration at HMV’s flagship Gamerbase is a fitting way to launch Carrier Command: Gaea Mission to a new generation, as well as highlighting its origins to fans of the original.”
To join in the fun, head to HMV Gamerbase at the Trocadero between 10:00am and 6:00pm on Friday, September 28th 2012.
