Epic Games, announces that the July release of the Unreal Development Kit (UDK), the free edition of the studio’s award-winning Unreal Engine 3 (UE3) technology, includes the best-of-breed Perforce Software Version Management system.
The addition of Perforce’s industry-leading solution enables UDK developers to utilize enterprise-grade version control tools for up to 20 users and 20 workstations at no charge, with no restrictions on time limit or file quantity. In addition, the latest enhancements to Epic’s engine make it even more seamless to leverage Perforce for the game production pipeline.
The July 2012 UDK Beta is available now at www.udk.com.
UDK provides a world-class development framework for 3D software developers of all sizes, providing blockbuster game horsepower that is compatible with independent budgets. With the addition of Perforce, more than one million UDK users gain access to top-quality version control and asset management at no additional cost.
UDK’s Perforce integration helps developers and artists collaborate more efficiently, and better manage data with detailed change history tracking.
Perforce versions and manages digital files and ensures all assets are reproducible and traceable. The system also provides powerful branching and merging features, enabling teams to work on different assets simultaneously while keeping project management in order. Perforce easily scales to support increasing team size and project complexity and is integrated with graphical tools including Photoshop, Softimage, 3ds Max and Maya.
The Unreal Editor features a slick and intuitive integration with Perforce that automatically adds and removes content as it is edited inside the tools. The latest UDK release is compatible with both new and existing Perforce installations.
“Teaming up with the game industry’s cutting-edge and highly powerful Unreal Engine technology is a natural fit for Perforce,” said Randy DeFauw, technical marketing manager of Perforce Software. “Epic understands the value of leveraging a rock solid version management system that appeals to developers of all disciplines.
