As announced on the ISOTX blog, PvP is making a comeback in Iron Grip: Marauders! While still working out many of the details, there are a few things the developers can already share with us.
First of all. you won’t need any energy to fight in PvP battles, and any losses you take in PvP battles will be returned after the battle – The devs don’t want people to be penalized for playing against each other, especially after waiting so patiently for this feature to be implemented! But there will be plenty of reason to fight in these PvP battles, not least because of a change to the leaderboards. PvE and PvP will now each have their own separate categories. Both will be considered when calculating overall leaderboard position.
Setting up a battle is simple, with options such as the maximum turn time limit, the deploy cap (the smallest being 400 and the largest being 1000), whether the game is invite only, and of course what map you will fight over! The maps currently available include a mostly open farm with a large chunk of impassable terrain causing two chokepoints near the center, a village map with narrow streets and many small pieces of cover, and of course several more. When you’ve chosen your battle settings, you can either invite people to the game, or wait for someone to join.
Once you’ve picked your army and hero, if you want one – they are optional in PvP – and the game is started, it’s much the same as playing the AI, except of course you aren’t fighting an artificial intelligence, but instead another human being. And real people come with a lot of extra ability to surprise you.
For instance, in one of the test games both sides picked half normal units, and half bomb trucks. Then, they both decided to put the bomb trucks into one big charge on one side of their deployment, while their normal units would advance along the other flank. Sadly, the two bomb trucks charges were on opposite sides of the field, so they didn’t run into each other, but it was still an amusing and unexpected experience for both players.
So as you can see, PvP is certainly going to be an exciting proposition. We’re sure you’ll have a lot of fun with it, and can’t wait to hear your war stories!
