Wish you can save a species? Leedmees by Konami (Xbox 360 Kinect, 800 MS Points) is a fun and interactive game that allows you to do just that. You must guide them (the Leedmees) to safety using your whole body. You can pick them up, roll them with your body movements, and if you’re not careful, destroy them.
You must get a certain number of Leedmees from one portal to another. These portals can change location and you must get them there safely in the limited time that you have. It can be quite the workout for anyone.
Leedmees is a fun and interactive game that is in the same idea of Lemmings, except better. You alone must guide them away from their destruction by getting them from the blue entry portal to the safety of the red exit portal. If you can get the Leedmees to go past a yellow star, you will increase your score.
Some of the challenges you will face include moving portals, spikes that will destroy your Leedmees, walls, and yourself if you crush them by accident, among many others. The higher the stage number, the harder it is to complete it. Some of the stages also included moving obstacles.
You have three worlds to explore: A New Morning is where you start and you must unlock the next two: High Noon and A Sleepless Night. As you move along in the levels, they will get harder as you face more obstacles. You must unlock all the stages before you can move onto the next book. Each world is divided up into stages. Five stages will show up on the screen at a time. You must unlock each stage on the screen before you can move onto the next five chapters.
Leedmees is a very fun game that takes advantage of the Kinect sensor. At some points, I felt as if I was playing many virtual games including Limbo, Twister, and Freeze tag trying to avoid all the obstacles and get my Leedmees to safety. Some chapters have you ducking to avoid platforms with spikes, while others have you running to one side of the level to avoid spears. Leedmees has you using your entire body as a vessel. One wrong move and you can accidentally kill your Leedmees. While it was frustrating when the sensor didn’t pick up my movements accurately, overall there was not an issue.
You can replay the chapters to improve your score. You will also have the option to resize your play area between levels. This can also help with the sensor picking up your movements. Leedmees can also be played using two people. The worlds are called House Party, Midnight Party, and Saturday Night Party. These play the same way the single player mode plays, but you need two people. This can lead to some interesting positions and much laughter.
On the main screen you can select singleplayer or multiplayer games, view the leaderboards, help & options, achievements and full game unlocked. These can be easily navigated by waving your hand to where you want the cursor to be. Settings and guide includes an interesting feature: You can set how you are displayed in the window. Silhouette is the standard setting; No display removes the Kinect camera window; Player only removes the background surrounding your image; and full display is a real image of what the Kinect actually sees. There are 12 achievements that can be earned. These include clearing all stages in each world, clearing multiple stages with a certain ranking, and more.
The graphics are simple and only add to the experience. You see yourself as a stick figure that follows your movements. The backgrounds are simple and allows you, the Leedmees, the obstacles, and the portals to stand out.
The sounds fit the game and do not distract from gameplay. The sounds give you auditory cues when your Leedmees get into the exit portal, get a star, among other things.
Leedmees happens to be one of the best games available for Kinect. Show your friends how good you are and that you are going to be on top of the Leedmees Boards.
