The hottest title of the summer is finally upon us. Everyone has been waiting to experience Catherine and Atlus delivered by releasing a demo. Based on first impressions, Catherine comes across as a seamless, adult adventure/puzzle game much like the iconic Leisure Suit Larry series from the late 1980’s. While technology has drastically improved since then, the overall concept still remains: this game is for adult audiences only.
You’re thrown into the life of Vince; a young man who is mixed up with a woman named Katherine. Things seem to be on the rocky side for Vinnie; his life is in the toilet while a string of reoccurring nightmares and strange dreams terrorize him.
Catherine is a puzzle/adventure game on crack; once you try it, you’re hooked. Even though it’s a demo, the addictive nature of the game is present. This is a good sign.
Even though the experience is limited in the demo, what is available showcases the right balance of adventure and puzzles. There hasn’t been a game with this kind of balance in a very long time, demo or otherwise.
One thing worth noting is the world altering aspect of Catherine. Your actions, including what you say, can and will change the way the game plays. With that said, Catherine should have tremendous amounts of replayability.
Catherine isn’t your standard run-of-the-mill puzzler; you actually live the life of Vince during the brief demo experience. Some activities include going out to bars and visiting friends, having a bite to eat, spending time with your girlfriend and having conversations. The environment also feels urban and very gritty, giving an almost surreal feeling. Even in its demo form, Catherine is quite special.
Catherine will be available everywhere by the 26th of July.
