PixelPerfectGaming.com had the opportunity to speak to Dave Georgeson, Senior Producer of Everquest II: Destiny of Velious. During our conversation with Dave, we touched on the future of Everquest II and what MMO gamers will be playing in the next 10 years.
According to Dave, the Destiny of Velious expansion is just one of four expansions planned for Everquest II. While he didn’t elaborate on these future expansions, he did mention that additional dungeons, story arcs and side quests will be added to prepare EQ II gamers for the next major upgrade.
For gamers still fairly new to EQ II (are there any of you still out there?), Destiny of Velious is an end game expansion pack with 4 new raid instances, 2 new hunting zones and 10 dungeons. There are more than 1,000 new weapons and items, 300 new quests, 30 new creatures and a new Signature Quest line.
According to Dave Georgeson, low level players will benefit little from the new expansion. So if you’re looking to take the plunge and play EQ II for the first time, the Destiny of Velious is not the expansion to purchase.
Dave Georgeson doesn’t see gamers playing Everquest II or World of Warcraft in the next 10 years. He feels the ‘Dungeons and Dragons’ concept has been exhausted and that new concepts should be introduced, including ideas that are more lifestyle-based.
When we asked what his ideal MMO would be – if given the chance to develop it – he said, ‘An MMO based on Las Vegas.’ The idea behind his answer would be a world where the player would interact in a Las Vega environment, make money, invest, and possibly start a business and/or corporation.
Like many developers, Dave feels that online gaming is the future. With that being said, he feels that MMOs need to broaden their appeal. As we head into the future, we may see some of Dave Georgeson’s ideas come to fruition. Who wouldn’t enjoy piloting a WWII fighter over the Pacific ocean with his/her squadron (i.e. guild mates) or running a mega corporation in Las Vega while battling rival corporations with hired muscle? The possibilities are endless.
