Ever watch a movie or read a book, and want to get involved in the story? The Great Gatsby by I-Play allows you to do just that. You play as Nick Carraway, a young idealist who has just returned from the war. He is a neighbor to Jay Gatsby, a mysterious millionaire. Much of the game centers around the mystery of who Gatsby is. The game explains who each character is and how they are related to the story.
You find certain hidden objects and letters in a variety of scenes, some are obvious while others are very hard to find. If you can not find an object, there is a “hint” button. This button needs to recharge after each use. The letters can be used to make words and earn extra points. If you think you can guess the secret word, hit the “guess” button and type what you think it is. If you guess wrong, you can make another guess when the button recharges. In addition to still scenes, there are moving and transitional scenes.
Playing the transitional scenes is optional. If you miss any objects in these scenes you can replay as many times as necessary. You will not receive a list of what you are looking for in these, but they are all the same type of object; ie clocks, stars, and bottles. You will get a quantity of how many objects there are and how many you have found. There are also mini challenges, such as making martinis, typing words, fixing a flat tire, or memorizing a picture and placing objects where they belong.
These add variety to the game and prevent it from being frustrating or monotonous. As you find objects and words, you will earn points. These points can be used to furnish your library. There is a variety of items you can purchase. These include pets, furniture, paintings, and various other decorations.
In addition to points, you also earn trophies. These trophies are earned when you guess words, complete levels without using hints, find books, among other things. There is even a trophy for linking your game to Facebook. The further you get in the game, the more objects you will need to find.
The game brings F. Scott Fitzgerald’s book to life. Even if you haven’t read the book the story is easy to follow.
The graphics in The Great Gatsby are well illustrated. The motions of the characters are very lifelike and believable. The music was clear and made me feel like I was in the time period and added to the overall game experience. The Great Gatsby will challenge even the most die hard hidden object gamer. The game can be played repeatedly as the list of hidden objects will change. Overall, an excellent game that everyone can enjoy.
