Nintendo’s successor to the DS and DSI will be called the 3DS. This new system will be capable of true 3D graphics. The 3DS will see a March 2011 release in Japan.
Confirmed is that previous DS and DSI titles will be compatible with the Nintendo 3DS system. This is a smart move on Nintendo’s behalf. There are literally millions of DS users today, and leaving them with no option to play their games on the 3DS would have been a bad decision (not to mention making it difficult for some people to justify the upgrade despite the 3DS’ 3D capabilities).
It was stated that the Nintendo 3DS will be the last system in the line of original DS systems.
