505 Games has teamed up with Buka Studios to repel the oncoming attack from the alien menace collectively referred to as “The Swarm” who have taken over Moscow with their eyes trained on the rest of the world. You must stop them. Combat in TS is unique in that you can choose to either annihilate the alien enemy or take on their DNA, and slowly become a monster accepted by neither side.
In The Swarm, you are cast into a Moscow that is suffering from nuclear fallout and have to deal with the ramifications this brings (this isn’t going to be pretty, folks). Being a bystander that has been abducted (after all, you start in an alien laboratory) you set off on revenge, how you extract it is up to you and your personal gameplay choices (taking on DNA and becoming a monster sounds pretty cool personally).
Your allies in the game are infected with some alien mutation and you have to help them by finding the antidote which brings about DNA mini-games and puzzles that help you gain powers to fight meaner aliens. Playing Doctor Jekyl is just the start, as you can manipulate the alien DNA to give yourself additional powers like the ability to regenerate health (sound familiar?), enhanced vision and even mutations that will allow your character to grow nice pointy claws to fight with. Other weapons of a non-biological variety include standbys like firearms, clubs and plasma projectors along with the extreme standby, grenades (you can’t fight an alien invasion without grenades, that is common knowledge).
“This is not your standard third-person shooter,” said Adam Kline, president of 505 Games U.S. “The game’s adaptive combat allows players to mold their characters, draw them into the alien takeover and force them to make tough decisions typically not found in other shooter games.”
