Playstation 4 Cloud Streaming; AMD Processor Hampers PS4 Backward Compatibility; New Playstation Eye in HD w/ Video Chat Support

It would appear that Sony’s acquisition of cloud gaming company Gaikai in 2012 may play a major role in the Playstation 4′s future. Cited by resources inside the The Wall Street Journal, this acquisition will be announced during Sony’s event on February 20th in Manhattan.

This acquisition, according to sources, will allow the Playstation 4 to stream full-fledged games like Angry Birds from Gaikai’s cloud services. This technology would essential mirror the Playstation Mobile service currently being offered to PSVita gamers. But instead of downloading the games, they would be streamed directly to PS4 consoles.

According to sources inside IBM, the Playstation 4 backward compatibility issue is due to the Playstation 3′s Cell Processor and Sony’s decision to adopt an AMD processor for Playstation 4. Sony is apparently working on a way to include backward compatibility for Playstation 3 titles, but sources close to Sony state that we may see the same ‘purchase and download ‘ option that was made available for Playstation 2 titles.

Sony’s Playstation Eye for Playstation 4 is reported to support HD and online video chat. Sony has been keeping quiet about their new Playstation Eye peripheral, but who wants to wager that it may also include motion technology similar to Kinect?
