Review Score:

Ever wish you could save the world? In Eden Industries’ Citizens of Earth for Wii U,  you do just that. As the Vice President, you wake up in your bed at home and must complete several quests. To figure out each quest, you must speak to the people around you and listen to their clues and explore the area.

As you explore the house and the ever expanding area outside, you will meet people that will help with current quests and possibly with other tasks in the future. Some of the people you run into will have “quests” for you to complete before you can move on to the next level. Each level is called a ‘Chapter’, and each chapter has an objective. Once you complete the chapter’s objective, you will move on to the next area.

In the first chapter, you must collect donut pieces and clear out protesters. You must also defeat the Opposition Leader to defeat the protesters. After defeating the Opposition Leader, it opens up another area that has deer-like creatures and bee/mosquito bugs that you must destroy. At this point in the game, your brother and mother fight for you. Using a turn-based combat engine, your attacks can strike a single opponent, multiple opponents, or they can even heal your mother and brother.

Your mother and brother can be hit with attacks that will deal damage over time. If your fighters die during battle, you will have to start over. As you explore the area, you will meet new people. There are multiple options available when clicking on these NPCs. These options include the ability to chat and recruit, among others.

To recruit an NPC, you must complete their quest, which in the beginning starts with finding a car in the water. While exploring the town, you will find businesses that you can enter such as Moonbucks, the local cafe. There are a couple of people inside that you can talk to. The game is full of interesting characters, like the conspiracy guy who is convinced that aliens are contaminating the local coffee supply. He asks you to taste the coffee to make sure it’s not contaminated. If you agree to taste the coffee, the NPC tells you to find ‘proof’ of the alien contamination, while he goes to the police.

The gameplay contains a variety of scenarios like the one previously described. For example: when you approach the cafe NPC, Barista, about the coffee, she tells you she is out of coffee beans and needs you to find more. Some quests involve killing the right enemy to solve certain puzzles. When you try to get into a back room, you find it locked. The key is missing and you must find it.

When you finally defeat the correct enemy, you will receive the key to unlock the back door. When you enter the back room, you get teleported to a different area where you defeat coffee themed creatures to get coffee grounds. There are multiple sections that you can explore as well as multiple types of creatures to kill. Each level offers its own unique challenges. How you complete each mission is up to you.

Citizens of Earth is a game that has incredible replay potential. You can choose to recruit certain people or to not recruit them. If you choose to recruit people, you can leave them in the ‘library’.

Citizens of Earth is a fun game where anyone can be the hero and fight the good fight. Who knows; if you succeed, you may be the next President.
