Review Score:

Looking for that iPhone game that is a unique experience and also controversial?  Check out Chin Up by Digital Harmony Games. You play Mr Chin who is being lifted up by standing on a beam with a Y shaped attachment above you.

As you go higher, objects are coming down at you. These include objects that you can use and objects that you want to avoid. To control where Mr Chin goes, move your finger side to side.

If you have objects that you want off your beam, you can tilt the beam up and down on each side. Some of the objects that you want to avoid include anvils, cats and dogs, hammers, nails, dynamite, and pandas, among other things.

The objects that you want to have hit you are the power ups. These include health, a shield, speed boosts, and score boosts. These are color and symbol coded. Health is green and looks like sushi; shields are blue and look like a guy doing yoga; super is yellow and looks like a guy in a red bubble; and score bonuses are red with a dragon.

You will also want to collect food, hard hats, and balloons. These restore your health, protect you from objects when they hit you, and will lift you back to your beam if you fall off.

Chin up gets harder as you go up in levels. In order to unlock the next level, you must get 3 or more stars. The more of the level you complete, the more stars you can get. There is a total of 5 stars you can get to unlock levels or you can unlock the levels by paying $0.99 each.

These levels include the starting level, Wuhan, The Great Wall, Beijing, Shanghai, London, Paris, Athens, and Vatican City.  Each level has their own uniqueness. For example, in Beijing, a dragon flies into the screen and will dive at you. If he hits you, he will take health.  The background objects are beautiful and unique to each level.

You will get one slot where you can store the extra power ups that you collect. You earn extra slots to store items you collect as you play. You can also buy food, hard hats, balloon packs for  $0.99.  Each pack contains 9 of whatever item you have purchased. You can buy 9 of each item in the Ultimate pack for $1.99.

Chin up is a fast-paced game that is harder than it appears. I died many times before I could get 3 stars. You will see your star meter on the right hand side of the screen. The controls are intuitive and easy to use. Some of the objects are easy to dodge, others you will have to tilt the beam to avoid them. You can move the beam side to side to dodge some of the objects as well.

To get rid of the unwanted objects on the beam will require great control to tilt the beam and slide them off with quick reversal to prevent Chin from sliding off. If you have a ballon and slide off the beam, the ballon will appear above you and lift you back onto the beam.

Chin Up is a controversial game with many elements that can be taken as offensive. For one, Chin’s health is a soy sauce bottle. Mr. Chin also talks with a stereotypical voice that will say things like, “So srippery”. The Vatican level shows the Devil chasing angels.

Even though Chin Up has controversial content, it is a must-have game for any iPhone owner who wants a unique gaming experience. There is no specific strategy needed to unlock the next level, just a lot of determination to keep earning stars.
