Do you love (or hate) monkeys? Then Protect The Monkeys by YeeDa Games, iPhone $0.99 (also available in HD for iPad $0.99) is the game for you.
You will need to slide your way to keep the monkeys safe to advance to the next level. Upon opening the game you will find the option to start a new game, resume a saved game, options, and use Game Center.
Options allows you to choose whether or not to have sound effects and music on or off. Game Center will allow you to choose leaderboards or achievements. There are 16 achievements such as Good start, Great move, and Level up, among others. You can also pause the game. When you pause you can either resume or save and quit.
When you start a new game, instructions will show you what to do on the screen. You need to scroll the icons vertically or horizontally til you get three or more in a row. The object of the game is to keep the bombs away from your monkeys (or if you hate monkeys, keep them close). The bombs have timers on them that count down till they explode. You want to keep your monkeys as far away from them as possible. If the bombs get too close and destroy your monkey(s) you will lose.
The higher up on in levels you go the more bombs appear as well as more icons to match. The icons include green boxes with faces, blue fuzzy circles with purple eyes and other different shaped creatures. If you get stuck the game will highlight icons. The background colors change as you go up in levels. In between levels, a cartoonish background will appear.
Playing PTM is intuitive and very easy to master. You will want to match three or more icons vertically and horizontally. The more matches you make in a single move the greater the combo will be. If a match cannot be made then the icons moved will go back to their original position. If you match 3 monkeys you will get a “funky monkey” that will automatically level you up. This game will appeal to those who enjoy puzzles.
