Posted by on December 28, 2010 under Portables, Reviews
Just to avoid suspense: • If you hated it then, you'll hate it now. • If the difficulty kept you from enjoying it years ago, time for a return visit. • If screenshots of the characters and landscape replaced the family portraits on your wall and you're wondering if there's anything new to idolize, not really. • If you've never heard of Riven and your standard of iPhone adventur... more.
  • Puzzle Quest 2 (Review) iPhone/iPod/iPhone

There's a certain dread booting up the sequel to a favorite game, knowing that despite the "bigger and better" hype there's a good chance it's not going to rekindle the affection of that first love. And, sure enough, this doesn't rouse enough sparks for more than a goodnight hug at the door. It's not a train wreck and some fans of the original will get their money's worth. But newbies and match... more.
  • NEOGEO Heroes: Ultimate Shooting (Review) PSP

Posted by on December 23, 2010 under Portables, Reviews
NEOGEO Heroes is a hell shooter for the Sony PSP. The heroes are comprised of 10 SNK characters from the famous King of Fighters series. One feature that you don’t normally see in hell shooters is a health bar (the one in NEOGEO Heroes is similar to the health bar found in the KoF fighting series). There are other shooters that use a health system, but nothing that comes close to the one used... more.

Posted by on December 20, 2010 under Reviews, Xbox 360
The 1990’s gave birth to many different genres, including the side-scrolling beat ‘em up.  It wasn’t uncommon to walk into an arcade back then and see a multitude of coin-ops by different developers competing for your quarters. Konami licensed the X-Men franchise and not only attracted gamers to the arcade, but comic book fans as well. Imagine the surprise of many gamers when Konami fina... more.

  • Decimation X3 (Review) Xbox 360

Posted by on December 15, 2010 under Reviews, Xbox 360
On the surface, Decimation X3 by Xona Games resembles the classic Space Invaders. Looks can be deceiving, though, and this is where the resemblance ends. The basic premise is to rack up the highest score possible while surviving wave after wave of enemies. This can be done alone or with up to 4 players. After surviving the first 4 levels of mayhem, you are then confronted by a boss. Like the sm... more.
  • Inkub (Review) iPhone/iPod/iPad

Germs that can wipe out the planet are cool. Surely the millions who made "The Stand" Stephen King's best-selling book can't all be wrong. He even came out with a second, far more verbose, version 10 years later (full of typos and errors thanks to now-obsolete references). No idea what it says about society when we're enthralled by nearly all of the planet being wiped out, but it certainly offers... more.
  • Score Rush (Review) Xbox 360

Posted by on December 13, 2010 under Euro, Reviews, Xbox 360
Score Rush is a fast-paced hell shooter that keeps you on the edge of your seat.  The action starts off slow, allowing you to find your rhythm. Right before the first boss encounter the kid gloves come off, and the game becomes a bullet ride from hell. Being a fan of Japanese hell shooters, I felt right at home as I was shooting and dodging bullets to save my life. The action is none-stop, thr... more.

Robox by developer Dreambox is a unique side-scroller that resembles many titles from the early 1990’s. As a probe named Robox, you must run, jump and shoot your way through a hostile alien world in search of other lost probes. As the game starts, Robox is released from a launch pad above the alien planet and plummets to the planet’s surface. This sequence can be controlled by the player, a... more.
