Do the sounds of breaking glass and twisting metal excite you? Wreckfest for PC is a fast-action thrill ride like no other, where death and carnage surrounds you at every turn (and where the only goal is to win at any cost).

To say it plainly – If Burnout Paradise and Flatout were to have an offspring, Wreckfest would be their child. It has the same tricks, maneuvers and racing mechanics found in the previously mentioned games. In short, Wreckfest is a racing wet dream come true. It includes demolition derby, death races and, yes – standard racing around a variety of tracks. There isn’t much else you could really ask for.

The all-out, balls to the wall gameplay will keep you glued to your seat, literately. It doesn’t take long to find online rivals that are willing to smash your vehicle into oblivion (and to make your life miserable either). The funny part is that winning a match isn’t nearly as fun as destroying your opponents’ vehicles or making sure they’re stuck somewhere in the environment.

There’s about  30+ vehicles to choose from that range from compacts and muscle cars to harvesters and school buses, among others. And if that wasn’t enough, every vehicle you purchase can be modified and tuned to your liking.  None of the vehicles are actually licensed, but you can tell by looking at each vehicle what they are suppose to resemble. Early on, you will not have enough capital to purchase any of the vehicles. The game starts you out with a low-end muscle car, but it is possible to rent a handful of cars to play online with. All the money earned online or via the single-player campaign can be used in all available game modes. The single-player campaign is rather extensive, loaded with crazy challenges such as lawnmower derbies and school bus challenges which are fun to play and hilarious to watch in spectator mode.

As for Wreckfest’s longevity: It’s constantly receiving updates from the developer. Plus, there’s over 100+ mods available for download via the Steam Worksop. There’s also a large online community of players, so finding an online battle/race is literally only a few seconds away.

The graphics are visually stunning. The vehicle models look breathtakingly realistic and the environments are absolutely gorgeous. There is nothing more enjoyable than seeing photo-realistic vehicles exploding on the race track. The scary part is that these destroyed vehicles become hazards on the race track, and they must be avoided at almost every turn.

The OST (Original Soundtrack) is quite impressive, as it includes songs from a variety of genres (i.e. Rock, Death Metal, Rap, etc). In fact, it’s one of the best soundtracks available in a video game, bat none. It’s simply groove-tastic.

Wreckfest is one of the best demolition derby games currently available on PC. I haven’t had this much fun playing a derby/racing game since the Commodore Amiga days. If you are looking for a racing game that takes you off the closed-circuit and outside your comfort zone  (and where raising Hell is part of winning), then Wreckfast by Bugbear/THQ Nordic is the game for you. Period.
