Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord – “Calradic Empire”

Good day, warriors! In the latest entry of the dev blog of Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord, TaleWorlds talks about the Calradic Empire, one of the most important factions in the game. As you may remember, Bannerlord is set 200 years before the events in Mount & Blade: Warband. At the start of the game, the Empire is divided into three factions, engaged in a civil war — a conflict which, eventually, will tear the Empire asunder and give birth to the kingdoms we see in Warband.

Today’s blog post introduces us to the recent past of the Calradic Empire and explains the events that led to its current civil war.

Since the Empire is so important for the game, this is the first of two blog posts devoted to it. The second part will be published next week… and will be the last faction (or rather, the last three factions) to be looked at in our series.

When the world falls into chaos, anyone can rise to glory if they are brave and skilled enough. You can be a fierce mercenary, selling your sword to anyone with gold in his purse. You can command your own army and drive them to the final victory. You can even rise to become a liege lord, sworn to protect your subjects and lands. Your destiny awaits, and you are free to choose it with your blade!

Mount & Blade combines the genres of Strategy and Action RPG. Set in the fictional continent of Calradia, the games feature a rich and detailed singleplayer experience which allows players to develop their own character and story in a sandbox campaign.

There is also a multiplayer element which lets players test their combat skills and tactical abilities against opponents from all around the world in massive, epic battles. The gameplay focuses on different aspects of medieval combat and warfare, and features a deep and intuitive directional combat system which is easy to learn, but difficult to master.
