Mainlining – Launching this October

Merge Games is delighted to announce it has entered into a publishing partnership with Suffolk-based developer, Rebelephant to bring Mainlining to PC in October 2016.

Mainlining – The Cyber Espionage Hacking Sim, mixes dark and dry humour with gameplay that echoes old school point and click adventures.

Luke Keighran, Merge Games Managing director, commented, “As soon as I played the Mainlining demo and discovered the assembled team behind it I knew it was a game Merge had to sign. Mainlining’s got a fantastic mix of hacking simulation and narrative adventure that will appeal to PC gamers, I have no doubt the game will be a big success.”

The entire game takes place on the simulated desktop of the protagonist’s computer. Assuming the role of a newly recruited Secret Intelligence Service MI7 agent and working within the remit of the Blu Pill Act (a bill that allows the powers that be access to all online personal data), the player must use their skill, judgement and cunningness to gather evidence by hacking suspects’ computers and phones. Move in too quickly and you may miss leads linking your case to much higher profile cyber-criminals. Act too slowly and your suspect may detect you and escape.

Sam Read, an original founder of HyperSloth, tasted critical success with Dream. Creating Rebelephant as a vehicle to work on original narrative driven content Sam’s first title is the Cyber Espionage Hacking Sim, Mainlining. To help bring the game to life Sam has called on some award-winning talent – Jared Emerson-Johnson (musician whose work in Tell Tale Games’ The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, Game of Thrones and more), Jill Murray (writer behind Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation and most recently Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate) and Dave Grey (an extraordinary pixel artist whose previous collaborations include the likes of Microsoft and HBO).

“After meeting the guys at Merge and seeing the type of genre games they were publishing I knew Mainlining would be a great fit. With their backing, the team can focus solely on the development of the game making sure we bring out a great title later this year”, commented Rebelephant’s Sam Read.

Rebelephant’s Mainlining will make its first public appearance at the PC Gamer Weekender event in London on March 5th and 6th. A single level playable teaser is available now and gamers can vote for the game on Steam Greenlight. Finally, the Mainlining is also included as a Kickstarter project with the aim to expand the game’s content even further.

Mainlining will be launched on PC in October 2016 with a price tag of $9.99 / €9.99 / £6.99
