KONAMI Wins Prestigious Jury Awards at Gamescom 2015

Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. has celebrated a strong showing at this year’s gamescom event, with its METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN and PES 2016 titles both picking up the coveted gamescom Award 2015.

gamescom is Europe’s largest consumer gaming event and its Judges’ Awards are given to the very best games on display. The eagerly-awaited METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN made its playable debut at this year’s show, and its stunning visual and huge open-world delighted visitors and critics alike. The game, which will release on Sept. 1, was awarded the gamescom Award 2015 in categories of “Best Console Game Microsoft Xbox” and the coveted “Best Action Game.”

PES 2016 was also recognized for its many advances. The KONAMI football title enjoyed a huge renaissance since its 2015 edition, which secured its reputation as the best football title available when it was awarded gamescom’s “Best Sports Game” last year. PES 2016, however, takes the strong gameplay of last year’s iteration and adds a wealth of new animations, gameplay content and modes and retained its title, with the jury awarding it the gamescom Award 2015 in the “Best Sports Game” category two years in a row, seeing off some fierce competition from all over the sporting globe. The quality of the game will be further demonstrated with the release of a free demo across all digital platforms on Aug. 13, ahead of the game’s full release on Sept. 15.

“It is a fantastic honor to see both METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN and PES 2016 recognized by the gamescom jury,” commented Tomotada Tashiro, President of Konami Digital Entertainment B.V. “We are always very keen to show the quality of both titles to the gamescom visitors and our confidence has been justified. These three awards are a testament to the hard working teams behind the games and we look forward to releasing such eagerly-awaited titles to expectant fans.”
