Insurgency Has Returned – Insurgency (Preview) PC

The old school mod Insurgency for Half-Life 2 has made a comeback using its own engine. Insurgency is not an add-on or a mod like it was previously; it’s now a standalone game.

There have been a multitude of changes made to Insurgency since it was an add-on for Half-Life. Some of these changes include, but are not limited to – an extensive modification system with multiple gaming modes such as co-op and death match-style game options.

Insurgency offers a lot of fresh new ideas that are going to make an enormous impact once it’s released. Although radically different from the previous Half-Life mod, the new Insurgency offers the same intense gameplay that gamers have come to love.

The teeth-gnashing, knuckle-whitening gameplay happens so fast, most firefights only last a few minutes. You have to be quick on your feet or good at being stealthy to get the drop on your opponents. Unlike Counterstrike,  you cannot rush your opponents and expect to live. The game also uses iron sights and scopes instead of cross hairs for aiming your weapons at your opponents.

If you don’t use the iron cross hairs, you will find it very difficult to hit your opponent. This is not necessarily a bad thing; it just makes Insurgency more realistic and harder to master. It also allows for better accuracy when laying prone.

The customization system allows the player to monitor everything  from animal types and extended magazines, to holo scopes and suppressors. There’s a good selection of weapons available that range  from sidearms to rifles.  As you would imagine, each weapon is customizable and has its own mods.

Weapons and mods don’t come cheap; there’s a hefty price to pay. The only way you can  purchase new weapons and mods is by killing your opponents. Killing your enemies will reward you with currency called ‘supply’ or ‘supplies’.

Once you have enough currency, you can access the inventory menu from the spawn point at the beginning of the level. There is only one drawback to the currency system – if you’re having an off day while playing and happen to die often, there will be no way to modify or upgrade your weapons.

Insurgency is poised to be a fantastic first-person shooter that contains the right balance of realism and tactics. If the Alpha build is any indication, gamers are in for an authentic first-person experience once Insurgency launches.
