Review Score:

The Outcasts expansion for Gratuitous Space Battles has finally arrived on Steam. If you’re unfamiliar with Gratuitous Space Battles, it’s a sci-fi strategy-based simulation where you command large fleets of spacecraft.

What makes Gratuitous Space Battles so great is the endless customization it offers the player. You can literally spend hours just designing ship layouts and customizing your options. You can either play quick matches that will throw you right into battle or you can play the single-player campaign that is lengthy and more in-depth.

You basically design ships, form fleets and then watch them engage in all-out war. You are limited to what you can control during battle. You can assign orders to each unit and then lay them out on a grid to design their formation. There is an option to command each ship individually, but it reduces the honor earned from each battle.

Honor points can be earned in either Campaign or Quickie Battles. You can use honor points as a form of currency to unlock and purchase items such as new hulls, weapons and other attachments.

The Outcasts is the latest DLC for Gratuitous Space Battles that adds a new race and faction to this strategy-based combat game. The DLC also includes ten new customizable ships such as four cruisers, three frigates and three more fighters. Plus, there are six brand-new equipment modules. These modules include tractor beams, hologram decoys, twin-stage missiles and much more.

Additionally, The Outcasts DLC adds two new scenarios (maps) and three different difficultly modes that can be utilized online.

It’s been about three years since gamers have seen any DLC for Gratuitous Space Battles. As it stands, The Outcasts revives this older release by adding some much-needed content and replay value. The Outcasts is a fantastic addition to an already great strategy game. If you’re looking to get more bang for your buck, The Outcasts DLC will not disappoint.
