Fishdom Frosty Splash (Review)

Fishdom Frosty Splash by Playrix is just as much fun to play as Harvest Splash.  With a new winter background and winter decorations, it adds a bit more cheer to the Holidays.  Frosty Splash plays by matching 3 of the same icons together.  For this edition; presents, snowmen, and bells were added to the mix of sea creature shaped icons.  If you match 5 or more of the same icons, you get a “bomb” that will blow up multiple pieces.  When you blow up 7 bombs, you get a “lightening” piece that when matched with any icon, will remove all the same icon unless under a chain.  When you get to higher levels, the game becomes more challenging.

You will often find the pieces locked under a single or double chain, pieces that can only be cleared by using bombs or lightening.  The more blocks you clear, the higher your score and the more money you receive for your aquarium.  As you buy items for your aquarium, you fill in meters in 3 categories: Fish, Beauty, and Comfort.  When the meters are filled in 100% you will receive either a bronze, silver, or gold cup.  As you get higher cups you receive a cash bonus.  When you have received your gold cup, you can choose to either purchase a new aquarium or continue to work on your current one.  You can also choose to have your aquarium as the screen saver on your computer.  If you love aquariums, this a great way to relax and not worry about having the heater set too high and having boiled fish!

In Frosty Splash you can play two ways: against the clock or relaxed with no time limit.  When you play against the clock you will receive bonus money based on the time you have left.  This gives the game more of a challenge, especially when you get to the more complicated boards.  The relaxed allows you to study the board more and plan for your next move.  This is an advantage in the more complicated layouts.  The disadvantage in this is that you do not receive a time bonus.

The new decorations include an octopus with skates, multiple penguin statues, different winter themed plants, and new fish (including a fish ready for the holidays with a striped scarf and hat) among others.  The comfort features have been changed to fit in with the winter theme.

Fishdom Frosty Splash is very fun to play and I spent many hours playing it.  (I found it as addicting as Harvest Splash).  The changes in the background and available fish, decorations, and comfort items made it feel like a new game.  I would highly recommend this game to anyone who loves puzzles or wants something fun to do.  It would also make an excellent gift for that hard to buy for person.

Frosty Splash is normally $19.95 but it is on sale for $9.98 until December 31, 2009.
